Director,
IT Strategic Policy
I take a leadership role in leading initiatives and shaping
IT policy direction and the campuswide agenda for these
policies, in close coordination with the CIO, IT governance
groups and campus and University technology and policy
units. Policy areas include those relating to information
practices and data governance, electronic information
privacy, openness, security, data management, electronic
communications, intellectual property, digital rights
management and, in conjunction with Records Management,
electronic records retention and disposition. I also track
new and emerging policy and laws, technology trends,
industry directions and institutional issues relating to
information technology, telecommunications and electronic
media, that affect or influence campus policies, practices
or procedures relating to electronic information.
As a member of the management team of the Associate Vice Chancellor, Information
Technology and Chief Information Officer, I
participate in institutional planning and strategy for
campus IT. I am a founding member and chair of the
Data Council; an ex officio member
of the Advisory Board on Privacy and Data
Protection and the Common Systems Group; a founding
member of the UC IT Policy and Security Officers
group; and a resource to the IT Planning Board.
I am a member of the EDUCAUSE Network Policy Council, on
the Advisory Committee of the EDUCAUSE/Cornell Institute for Computer
Policy and Law, the Advisory Committee of the
Digital Citizen Project and one of
two representatives from UC to the State of
California's College and University Social Security
Number Task Force (AB1168).
